What is dandruff?

Dandruff is a condition of the scalp that causes flakes of skin to appear on the hair and it often accompanied by severe itching.

A dry itchy scalp can be so uncomfortable and depressing sometimes. Some of you might have even tried all the dandruff products on the market and nothing seems to be helpful, the dandruff keeps coming back.

Well, it’s time you know the simple home remedies that will help get rid of your dandruff without wasting any of your money.

WHAT CAUSES DANDRUFF?

There are many factors that can lead to dandruff, these factors include environmental pollutants, stress, unhealthy die, not enough hair brushing, yeast, medical conditions, age, certain skin conditions e.t.c

(1) Not enough hair brushing

Yes you need to brush/ comb your hair more often as it helps reduce dandruff by shedding the skin.

(2) Yeast

Test is one of the biggest causes of dandruff.

Dandruff is often worse during the winter months and better during the warmer season because ultraviolet light from the sub counteracts the yeast.

(3) Shampoo and hair care products

Yes certain hair products will trigger a red itchy scaling scalp and when you use Shampoo more often, it will irritate the skin and cause dandruff.

 

(4) Medical conditions

People suffering from Parkinson’s disease and some other neurological illness are more prone to dandruff. People who have suffered from a heart attack or stroke  may also be more prone to dandruff.

(5) Age

Dandruff can be there for all your life but is more likely from adolescence to middle age.

(6) Certain Skin Conditions 

If you have eczema, psoriasis and other skin problems you are more prone to getting dandruff

 

OLIVE OIL FOR DANDRUFF

Olive oil is one of the best home remedies to cure dandruff. NOW let’s look at some of its properties that will show how it works for dandruff.

  1. Olive oil contains vitamins A, E and K and also minerals that help repair hair
  2. Olive oil removes dust, dead skin cells and some impurities the scalp, thus keeping it clean and healthy
  3. Olive oil stimulates proper blood flow when massaged onto the scalp thus having a clean healthy scalp
  4. Olive oil has wonderful MOISTURIZING properties that moisture and nourishes the scalp to prevent dryness, flaking, and itching.
  5. Olive oil will restore oil balance onto the scalp and thus not too dry, preventing dandruff.
  6. Olive oil has antifungal and antibacterial properties that fight against the yeast causing dandruff.

 

HOW TO USE OLIVE OIL FOR DANDRUFF

(1) Warm the olive oil, apply on the scalp and massage

You firstly poor enough of extra virgin olive oil in a bowl, place it on the pan filled with hot water for some few minutes so that it warms the oil and then apply the warm olive oil on your scalp and massage in circular motion for 5-6 minutes. after that you wrap your hair in a warm towel and let it sit for at least 45. After that wash your hair with mild Shampoo and warm water and dry your hair thoroughly.

(2) Mix olive oil with neem oil  

Mixing olive oil with any carrier oil or essential oils will also help get rid of dandruff.

(3)Mix olive oil with lemon juice

As we all know, lemon has vitamins C, attic acid and antioxidant properties that combat dandruff so the mixture if lemon juice and olive oil will get rid of dandruff effectively.

You firstly, add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a bowl and stir. After that apply the mixture on the scalp massaging in gently for some minutes.

Allow it to stay for 3 hours and then rinse off with Shampoo and warm water. To completely get rid of dandruff repeat the process for 3 weeks.
